Q: I am only getting 4K@60Hz when using the UPTab Active adapter. How can I get 4K @ 120Hz?

There are several different reasons why a 4K display would be limited to 4K@30/60Hz using our adapter. We would recommend first checking:

  • The Mini DisplayPort output port must be mDP 1.4 compliant to get 4K @ 120Hz with HDR.
  • System specifications to ensure that the internal graphics processor can support 4K @ 60Hz and that the output port on the system/GPU can support 4K @ 60Hz.
  • Monitor specifications to ensure that it can support 4K@120Hz from the desired input port. HDMI input ports must be HDMI 2.1 specifications.
  • For HDR to function, the source system needs to support Mini DisplayPort 1.4, and the screen needs to have support for HDR and/or HDMI 2.1.
  • Ensure that the HDMI cable is HDMI 2.1 Certified.

If both the system's GPU, Mini DisplayPort output port, and the monitor claim support for 4K @ 120Hz, please check the Windows Advanced Display Adapter settings to ensure that 120/60Hz is available and selected from the drop-down list.

If 120Hz is not listed and you are connected to our adapter with an HDMI 2.1 cable, please double-check that the monitor has HDMI 2.1 ports. Additionally, some 4K TVs and monitors must enable an “HDMI 2.1,” an “HDMI UHD Color” or “Ultra HD/UHD Deep Color” (or similar) setting for 4K@120/60Hz to work via HDMI. Please consult the monitor’s manual and check the monitor’s menu settings to see if there is an applicable setting.

UPTab adapter is truly active. Rather than relying upon passing a TMDS signal via Mini DisplayPort’s Dual-Mode, the adapters actively convert the outgoing Mini DisplayPort LVDS packets into the necessary TMDS signaling. With an internal clock rate of up to 594MHz, our adapters support all the “must-have” features of HDMI 2.1, with resolutions up to 4K@120Hz with HDR, stereoscopic 3D support, and higher color depths.

Q: Does the UPTab (B014E8ZC7E) adapter support AMD Eyefinity setups beyond two monitors?

Yes! AMD Eyefinity will allow up to two “legacy” display connections (HDMI, DVI, or VGA). The third connection must be native Mini DisplayPort, i.e.; not Dual-Mode/DP++ carrying an HDMI signal (since that would count as one of the two “legacy” displays). When using our active adapter, the video card will not need to utilize one of the legacy connections but instead will address it as a native Mini DisplayPort display. (Please note: per AMD, their graphics cards support a maximum of two active adapters.)

Q: Does the UPTab (B014E8ZC7E) adapter support 4:4:4 color/chroma sampling?

Yes! Our adapter supports 4:4:4 chroma sampling at 4K @ 120Hz resolutions at 8-bit color depth (8bpc). Please be aware that the connected display/TV must also support 4:4:4 color depth, and the HDMI cable must be HDMI 2.1 capable while connected to an HDMI 2.1 input port on the display.

Q: Does your adapter support HDR?

Our adapter does support HDR imaging (High Dynamic Range). HDMI 2.0b is the minimum specification for supporting HDR.

4K 120hz Works!

What can I say, this product simply works for my Intel NUC 11 Enthusiast Phantom Canyon.My PC features NVIDIA RTX 2060 (mobile variant). Simply plug into mDP port and link it to HDMI cable and voila!!I'm getting silky smooth 4K 120hz on my LG C1 4K 120hz cable TV with HDMI 2.1 ports.One thing I noticed was that the dongle requires USB connection for power and it gets REALLY HOT!I put a small fan next to the dongle so it cools it just enough.I highly recommend this product for someone who has similar set up. (NVIDIA RTX variants)

ACTIVE miniDP to HDMI a must for certain multi monitor setups

I purchased several ACTIVE miniDP to HDMI adaptors when the first one I ordered did not work on my Mac. My setup - 2013 Mac Pro, Yosemite OSX, 1 UHD monitor, 1 Thunderbolt Display, 1 HDMI display. When using multiple monitors (more then 2 it seems) a 'normal miniDP to HDMI adaptor or direct HDMI connection would not work as one or several of the monitors pictures would cycle on and off or 'flash'. So an ACTIVE mimiDP to HDMI adaptor is needed to 'offload' the conversion step from the GPU to the adaptor to stop picture flashing. The Mac Pro only puts DD (Dolby digital) or multichannel surround sound out through DP or HDMI so the adaptor needs to pass at least 5.1 surround (I believe this unit will pass 7.1) to get surround sound from this Mac. While the previous active adaptor I purchased advertised DD passthrough, that was not the case. I don't quite know why but it seems to do with Apples implementation of surround and how it's formatted?? Anyway, the Uptad unit passes the surround audio perfectly to my amplifier and also allows me to use my third monitor which is connected through the amplifier allowing a 3rd desktop. No configuration is needed and it worked right out of the box. I do get several seconds of screen blink when I turn on the third monitor or the amplifier when the computer is already running but I can't see how it's this unit but rather the computer GPU adjusting for the new condition.

4K @ 60Hz works with caveats

I have confirmed that this adapter can drive 4K resolution at 60Hz using a Macbook Pro 2014 Retina with an nvidia 750M graphics card built in. A couple important things to know:1) When hot plugging this adapter while the computer is running, it will freeze your laptop forcing a reboot. You have to boot with it already plugged in, which is a major inconvenience. UPDATE: After upgrading to EL Capitan this problem appears to have gone away. This advice given to me when contacting support - they did get back to me promptly, even over a weekend.2) Out of the box the 4K @ 60Hz resolution is not supported by Mac, you have to download a 3rd party software called SwitchResX and create a custom configuration to get this to work at 60Hz. Note that SwitchResX has a 10 day free trial, but requires purchase afterwards.If you can live with the two points above, then you will enjoy this adapter. I'm giving it 4/5 stars because it delivers on 4k @60Hz (a major accomplishment), but a 1 star deduction because of the two points listed above.

It worked connecting a Mac to LG TV

I spent six months trying to connect a iMac with thunderbolt to the LG OLED. LG first replaced the TV, then the control board, then told me it was a HDCP 2.2 problem and would do nothing. Apple support assign programer for the past 3 months after testing iMac and sending the data for them to work on. The never solved the problem. I tried this connector and it worked for the video. The sound works too, but does not allow surround sound front the Mac. This is a very good product, with attentive vendor.
